Cystagon Dosage Info for Adults
Dosing for Adults Beginning Treatment
A white cell cystine level should be obtained before starting patient on Cystagon
therapy. A white cell cystine level is necessary to confirm the diagnosis and to establish a baseline level.
Initial therapy should start at 50 mg twice a day for several days. Dose should be increased gradually to every six hours and then increased in 50 mg increments over a period of a year to final dose. A customized schedule can be obtained by contacting Karen Stephens.
Be sure to give Cystagon
with food.
Some adults may not be able to acheive a dose of 1.30 g/m2/day. Adults should try to acheive a dose as close to 1.30 g/m2/day as possible and to stop if the side effects are intolerable.
It is important to obtain a white cell cystine level when the highest possible dose is acheived and to continue monitoring white cell cystine levels periodically.
